North Kansas City is shaping up into a new and interesting entertainment area.
Located just 5 minutes from downtown, North Kansas City was known as a mostly industrial area, but is now becoming a place where beverage businesses are booming, finding space plentiful, rent reasonable and its central location appealing.
Now, all you have to do is travel just a few block off Burlington Road, and you’ll find an area of North Kansas City where several new breweries, distilleries and bars have set up shop and are ready to welcome visitors.
So, the next time you find yourself headed out for a drink with friends, consider heading north and stopping in to visit any of these six new drinking spots.
Colony Espresso & Beer Company
Colony Espresso & Beer Company opened their doors last year ready to pour great local coffee, beer they make themselves and handcrafted cocktails. They serve pastries from Scratch Bakery, but not full meals. Instead, they encourage you to order from any of the local restaurants and have it delivered, or you can simply bring in your own food from home. Enjoy a drink of your choice in their social surroundings. They also host fun pairings events like a Girl Scout cookies and beer pairings, with cookies for sale to benefit the Girl Scouts of America.

Velo Garage and Tap House is also home to the VeloWagon, KC's only mobile bike repair and beer bus. The VeloWagon has four beer taps to serve ice cold beer, that is available to book for your next event.

The Big Rip Brewing Company
A growing brewery that opened in May 2013, The Big Rip was founded by two friends who caught the beer and wine making bug years ago and decided to start a brewery together. Their goal is to create unique beers that appeal to both beer-nerds and people new to craft beer. Their taproom is decked out like a local clubhouse featuring 6-10 of their beers on tap, local wine and a full bar that includes their homemade root beer that they suggest you pair with local SD Strong Vodka that they infuse with vanilla beans. They do not serve food, but Hawg Jaw Que & Brew is located right next door and is happy to deliver food over to the taproom.
