André Bollier came to Kansas City from Switzerland in 1955 to
open a Swiss Confiserie making only the highest quality confections. Almost 50
years later, with the third generation Bollier, grandson, René, assuming the
reins, safe to say André succeeded in building a chocolate empire that we are
still enjoying to this day. Andre’s still makes, by hand, in the basement of
their Main Street location chocolate truffles, bonbon’s as well as their famous
milk chocolate covered almonds using only the finest Swiss chocolate. Expect
authentic Swiss chocolates, steeped in the utter expertise and tradition of the
famous chocolatiers of Switzerland. Purchase a 1 pound box of chocolate covered
almonds for $30. LUNCH:
at Andre’s Swiss-style Tea Room, and find
yourself racing through their charming lunch just to get to dessert.

Erwin Little, the owner of Laura
Little’s Candies, has enjoyed a 40 year run at his only location on 75th
Street in Prairie Village. Walk through the door, and your nose will tell you
why they continue to thrive. It’s their wide selection of fantastic fudge and
chocolate candies. This is a charming old-fashioned candy shop that still cooks
their high quality ingredients in copper kettles and stirs them with wooden
spoons. Try Chocolate turtles, handmade chocolate dinner mints or fudge in
unique flavors like Chocolate Rum, Penuche (Maple Pecan) and Vanilla Peanut
Butter. Two pieces or a ¼ pound of their rich fudge is only $2.25. KNOW: that Laura Little’s also carries
a large selection of “sugar free” chocolate bon-bon’s and fudge so you will be
sure to find a treat for everyone.

This stylish all white space is a
chocolate and coffee haven located in the heart of the Plaza. Panache has been
soothing chocolate cravings for over 30 years. Owner, Barbara Bailey, uses the
finest American milk and dark chocolate in her confections, which gives her
candies a much sweeter profile than other types of chocolates. Panache is known
for their quirky addictions like Choco Flakes, chocolate-covered corn flakes,
Choco Poppo, chocolate-covered popcorn and their chocolate-covered Oreos, which
they make in the back of their shop. Try their dark chocolate Choco Flakes $12
for a small bag, and see why they are not just for breakfast anymore. CUSTOM: chocolates are a specialty. If you like a certain
candy, but want it filled with something different, they can do it. They also
do personalized chocolates in any theme.

Chef Christopher Elbow had
a rich culinary career as a pastry chef in Vegas and at eventually at The
American Restaurant before he decided to dedicate himself wholly to chocolate.
Chris has impressed, not only us here in Kansas City, but the entire food
world, with his use of vibrant colors and seasonally inspired flavors he uses
in his bon-bon’s. Try some of his creative flavors like Fig & Port, Caramel
Apple and Masala Chai to sample the true genius behind his chocolates. SURPRISE: your senses with a bar that
Food & Wine Magazine named their #1 favorite bar. The Christopher Elbow No. 6 Dark Rocks features a
snap, crackle, pop rock-like candy embedded in a 61% dark chocolate bar.

I love sharing out the bars of Dark Rocks that I purchase. It's so much fun to see people's faces as they eat it.
