Hey Jenny,

Love your blog. I read this post with great interest as I am a native of "The Dot." I have this weird relationship with KCK. I'm like the big sister who calls her own brother an idiot, but doesn't allow others to. That's how I feel about KCK. Because I grew up there, and know it and all of it's unpleasant parts, I feel I can form an opinion from experience, and not just because it's not cool. With all that said, I have only ever tried one of the restuarants on your list (not going to say which one, but I haven't been back since). I used to pass by Italian Delight all the time, and have never tried it. I can tell you that this list isn't for chic eating, but greasy, down and dirty eating. So I'll take your challenge. My New Year's resolution was to try new restaurants anyway (and stop eating lunch at Panera Bread for goodness sake!!)

I'm willing to try Felitza's Fine Italian Cuisine. So, Jenny, my fellow foodie, I heard about this restaurant over in KCK -- Want to venture over with me?

Jenny V.

Denene, a real native "Dotonian," you are a hidden gem in my quest to try more restaurants in KCK in 2008. I sense that the food would be more good grub than fine dining and I am a-okay with that. I would love to venture over with you. Email me a time and place and it is on like Donkey-Kong.

I am so excited . . .this is going to be an adventure. Does anyone else have suggestions on where we should eat for good grub in KCK?

Tom

Hi Jenny and Denene. I just started working in downtown KCK and am moving to Strawberry Hill at the end of the month. I don't eat out that much but am still eager to know all my choices. In fact, two friends and I plan to eat at Felitza's on Friday (1/11) so, if you'd like to join, we'd love to have you. Find my contact info at the United Way of WyCo website.

I am taking you up on your offer, see your United Way email for my response! Thanks, I am looking forward to it. JV

Let me recommend El Taco Nazo. I visited there last week, and it was excellent. Tongue taco?! I blogged about the experience here: http://www.gonemild.com/2008/01/food-extremism.html

Why yes, of course, I would like to french kiss a cow by eating a taco in KCK! But of course, where else? I'm adding it to the list . . .now!

THERE REALLY ISNT MUCH REASON TO VENTURE INTO DOWNTOWN..VILLAGE WEST IS HYPE ENOUGH RIGHT NOW TO TAKE AWAY THE FOCUS. THE SUBURBS WERE THE DESTINATION BEFORE THAT. THERE ARE SO MANY ALTERNATIVES BEFORE PEOPLE START FLOCKING BACK DOWN TOWN...

Tess

Hey, stumbled on your blog (thru TKC) and wanted to let you know that I had NEVER had a meal in downtown KCK until I started dating a guy who works at the courthouse. Now and then we grab a quick lunch together near downtown, so I can give reviews of several of the places you mention.

Felitza's -- both my boyfriend and I thought it was pretty good, but just run of the mill Italian, nothing outstanding, but a pretty good lunch.

Fritz's -- everyone in KC should make going to this old school diner a MUST -- a real unique experience

Rincon Columbiano -- excellent food and nice people, i can't wait to go back when the Plantains are in season

Taqueria Mexico -- pretty good, basic Mexican

Los Amigos -- also pretty good... but I hear the place is under new management now, so I have no idea if it's the same as when I was there

One place you didn't mention is Jones BBQ (It's on 6th and near Barnett I think) -- I've had some good food there, and some great food, so you should give it a shot!
