Looking forward to Kansas City's Restaurant Week, January 16-25? Well, I promise, you will be, after I post my photos from my three pre-dine Restaurant Week dinners at three different Kansas City restaurants. If my first dinner is any indication, this should be a banner year for Restaurant Week. There are a record-breaking 150 restaurants taking part in this event this year. Let's face it, it is January, and it is cold outside and Restaurant Week gives you a chance to get out and get together with family and friends, eat some good food at a great price, and a portion of each meal will be donated to Boys Grow, Cultivate Kansas City, Children's Center for the Visually Impaired (CCVI) and VisitKC and Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association.
Tuesday night, I hit Char Bar in Westport to sample their Restaurant Week offerings. I should already confess that I am a fan of this place. This is a really fun and well-run concept from the folks that own McCoy's Public House, the Foundry at McCoy's and Beer Kitchen along with BBQ expertise and sauces from barbecue businessman and pit master, Meat Mitch. Right now all of the good stuff is happening inside, but come Spring their "adult playground" will host the largest outdoor beer garden in Kansas City. This will be the place you will come to play hooky from work on those gorgeous Spring and Summer days ahead.
Char Bar is offering three courses for $15 at lunch and $33 for dinner. The dinner menu has 3 appetizers, 4 entrees and 2 dessert to choose from. (Please keep in mind: drinks, tax and tip are extra.) For my 3-course pre-dine Restaurant Week dinner at Char Bar, I ordered the Smoked Duck Gumbo as my starter and Smoked 1/2 Chicken with Cheesy Corn Bake for my entree and finally a butterscotch creme brulee, called Burt Puddin'.
What is really nice about Char Bar's Restaurant Week menu strategy is that they decided to pull some of their fan favorite dishes from their regular menu in order to highlight what they really do best at Char Bar AND they have carnivore and vegetarian options on their Restaurant Week menu. Meat and Veggie lovers may rejoice together! In fact, I counted more than 10 vegetarian friendly dishes on their regular menu, so they are serious about having something for everyone.
One more thing about Char Bar, this place has plenty of seats for larger parties, so don't be afraid to call up friends and family and have them meet you there during Restaurant Week. The more . . .the merrier. Enjoy!
