“NEW places to try in the NEW YEAR!”

Co-owners Daniel & Jenny McCall along with Co-owner/operator, Jason Rourke both live and have worked for other bars and restaurants in and around the Waldo area before they took on the task of repurposing the historic Romanelli’s Grill and former Gaf location into the District Pour House + Kitchen. The goal was to provide a casually modern restaurant where folks in the neighborhood could come with family, friends or on a date and all feel equally at home. The reclaimed wood, industrial light fixtures and handle bar wall art all tell you that the District has been reborn. The food is also a fantastic mix of comforting classics with gourmet touches. GET: the Meatloaf with whipped potatoes, creamy green beans with bacon and caramelized onion gravy is outstanding and only $16.

The old building that now houses the new Milwaukee Delicatessen Company in downtown KC dates back to 1881, and was saved from the wrecking ball by redevelopers so Jon Gerner, managing partner, and Jason Pryor, owner of Pizza 51 and Pizza 51 West could bring their vision to life. The food is more Pizza 51, than true deli, but the bar is clearly where Jon Gerner’s influence is felt. Well stocked with a great beer selection, this will be a hot lunch and neighborhood watering spot. The interior was stripped down to its original bones and will absolutely take your breath away. VISIT: the also newly opened Sasha’s Baking Co. next door for European style breads & pastries to-go or just a sweet treat to take back to the office with you.

Rick and Kristi Gillard and Greg Horseman now are the proud owners of two Grand Street Café locations. The first one has been successfully open in the same spot just off the Plaza for almost 2 decades, and the second just opened in the brand new Lenexa City Center East. Lenexa has long been in need of more fine dining options and Grand Street’s new location brings the big city feel to the suburbs with a sleek and stylish white and blue dining room. Executive Chef Aaron Wells-Morgan has created a creative, but approachable menu that both locations benefit from. Order the grilled salmon with winter vegetable succotash for $23. DO: not miss their Sunday brunch, full of absolutely decadent choices to start your weekend right.
