Award-winning chef, Michael Smith and his wife
Nancy, opened Extra Virgin as a sexy little sister to their flagship
restaurant, Michael Smith. And the patio attached to the front of Extra Virgin
is definitely a “see and be seen” destination. The view from the patio focuses
on the busy street and the unique buildings and rooftop patios. The food never
disappoints, share small plates that are hearty enough to feed all appetites.
Happy Hour offers ½ priced small plates marked with an asterick on the menu.
Offered Mon.-Fri. from 11:30 am to 6:00 pm it is a terrific deal, and there are
drink specials to match. BOOK: a

Dennis
and Cindy Reynolds, owners/winemakers for Somerset Ridge, have created a little
piece of Napa wine country culture out south. On the weekends, visit their Tasting
Room. Once you have sampled all of their terrific local wines for free, buy a
bottle (I suggest Buffalo White or Ruby Red) for about $14. Then, order a boxed
lunch for $15, feeds 2-3 people. Made by Cindy’s Mom Chef Kay, you’ll get fresh
baked bread, whole grain crackers, cheese from local Green Dirt Farms or a
suitable substitute, fruit, beef salami made by Werner's Butcher Shop and
finally, fresh baked cookies. Take your goodies, outside and sit on a blanket
or choose one of the many tables outside. STOP:
by the Louisburg Cider Mill on your way and pick up some delicious cider.

Just count the seats inside of
Chef Celina Tio’s new place, JULIAN, and you can see that the gorgeously
appointed patio, doubles the size of her restaurant. This means in good
weather, more good people can eat her good food. Get out on the patio when the
sun is out, but if you choose to go eat in the evening, go for her Sunday Night
Family Meal served 5:30 pm – 9:00 pm. On this day, she only makes one 3-course
meal for only $30 per person, and what she’s making, is what you are eating.
Each course offered is the perfect portion size, so you can enjoy a glass of
wine, too. KNOW: that you will still
need to call ahead in order to ensure a table inside or out.
Harry’s Bars & Tables
501 Westport Rd
Kansas City, MO 64111
(816) 561-3950
Like many icons in
Westport, not much has changed over the years at Harry’s Bars & Tables.
This is the place where the Chefs in town go to relax, grab a bite once their
shift is over, and meet their friends for cocktails to catch up. It is also one
of the few places that serves a full menu until 2 am. When the weather gets
nice, it is the outdoor patio with the caboose bar, up top, that makes this
place a top spot to nosh and drink. It is also a prime spot for people
watching. Check their Facebook page for their special of the day, whatever it
is, just get it. TIP: well at Harry’s, the service is always fast and
efficient with minimum fuss, maximum joy.
