Not Jasper, he is on vacation in Italy with our local Slow Food Convivium group in Kansas City.
Okay, you'll never guess, not in a million years, so I will just tell you. It's me! Surprise!
No, really it is.
Yes, no . . . THEY called ME.
I mean it. I would not joke about a thing like this. I know, I know . . . isn't it exciting?
That's just about how the conversation went with my Mom when I told her about my co-hosting gig this Saturday on Chef Jasper's radio show. For those of you that don't know, for the last year Chef Jasper has been hosting a food-related radio program that broadcasts live every Saturday on KCMO 710 am at 11:00 am.
Since JJ, as he is know by most, has got to be one of the most connected (meaning he knows everyone, and everyone knows him) people in the food business in Kansas City his show has had some really terrific and interesting local and national food-related guests. He has even had some famous people on his show. . . .and now for one morning only, he has Foodie on his show. (I am sorry it is hard not to be excited.)
Mitch Baker is a consultant working with the radio show who contacted me after finding my blog and my Tastebud Magazine editor to see if I would be interested in co-hosting the show with him this Saturday while Jasper is eating his way through Italy. (Where was my invitation to that junket, I ask you? Sounds like fun!)
Here's what I know about what we are doing:
Basically, I have pre-recorded two segments for the show (subjects of my choosing!) . . .one is a restaurant segment featuring the owners, Enrique Gutierrez, and his mom, Chela, who does all the cooking behind the really fantastic Mexican restaurant in the Dutch Hill/Longfellow neighborhood called Teocali.
The other segment is featuring our talented local mixologist/wine guy/marketing consultant, Ryan Maybee, about how to make the most perfect cocktail for Fall - The Manhattan. The cool part is we recorded the segment in his new underground speakeasy he is getting ready to open downtown called Manifesto. (Guys, get ready . . .it is going to be so cool! I got the skinny from Ryan, and the skinny is good.)
The rest of the show will be L-I-V-E and we plan to fill the time with a discussion of miracle berries, flavor-tripping parties . . .and who knows what else.
Wish me luck, and if you miss my show live this Saturday, I'll post it as soon as I get a copy and convert it.
Foodie is in d' house. Thank you, Kansas City, thank you very much.
Now if you will excuse me, I have a cardboard cut out to go make in my image.
P.S. As an update to this posting, I have been invited to contribute a Tastebud Magazine Table Hopping segment to Chef Jasper's radio show each week. I guess I passed the try-outs and made the team. Jasper has been emailing me words of encouragement and thanks for working on his radio show. He is such a nice man. This is the most fun a Foodie could have! Perhaps you should tell me to "break a leg".
