In a city nicknamed Cowtown, KC seems a natural place to open a proper Brazilian Rodizio restaurant. Try Em Chamas, which means “In Flames,” located up North at the upscale Tuileries Plaza. For a fixed price of $35 a person, Gauchos cut succulent cuts of beef, pork, chicken, lamb and seafood right onto your plate as long as your coin is turned to the “Go” position. A gourmet salad bar is also included. DRINK: A Brazilian Caipirinha cocktail. This place will make you redefine your image of an all-you-can-eat restaurant.

With a smart, but accessible, wine list, and a delightful list of small plates, light bites and desserts, you will find this a perfect place for lunch or as a perch for Happy Hour and beyond. EAT: The Bruschetta, choose from 9 different toppings and get a platter perfect for sharing. The prices will surprise you too with everything between $5-$12.
Lill’s on 17th Street
815 W. 17th Street
Kansas City, MO 64108
816-421-4441
Right around the corner from the Bluebird Café, you will find the funky little love shack also known as Lil’s on 17th Street. Unlatch the gate of this converted old home and climb the steps into this laid-back eatery that serves (from the world’s smallest kitchen) authentic Spanish tapas and heavenly Sangria. Enjoy the cozy dining room and leisurely savor shared plates, wine and conversation. SIT: Outside on the quaint front patio and enjoy the weather and the moment. Take the time to get lost at Lil’s.
Pine & Bamboo Garden
10915 W. 63rd Street
Shawnee, KS 66203
913-268-9545
This unassuming little Chinese restaurant on Shawnee Mission Parkway, west of I-35, quietly serves an impressive array of authentic pull-cart Dim Sum every weekend. Although Bo Ling’s is the darling of the Dim Sum scene in KC, if you are a fan of these little “heart’s delights”, try Pine & Bamboo. Most plates are around $2.50 a piece. ASK: For a Dim Sum menu to get a full idea of what is available. With a mostly Asian clientele, you may have to insist that you really are there for the Dim Sum. Do insist.
Mediterranean Market & Café
7417-B Metcalf Ave.
Overland Park, KS 66204
913-722-7744
You have likely driven right by this little market on Metcalf many times and wondered about it. Wonder no longer. This family run business is part market, but mostly café, serving tasty and fresh Middle Eastern and Mediterranean dishes. SEE: Over 10 different vegetarian items on one plate with The Veggie Combo for $10. If you are more in the mood for meat, get the beef, chicken or lamb Shish Kebab Plates. Enjoy your meal today and have plenty left over for lunch tomorrow.
